Laser Safety Officer

Laser Safety OFFICER

This course will provide the training to become a Laser Safety Officer (LSO) for current or aspiring supervisors in the civil or construction industries.

Learn to use the correct laser for the job and comply with the recommendations of current Australian general laser safety standards (AS/NZ  IEC  60825) and industry specific standards such as AS 2397 - Safe use of lasers in the building and construction industry.

COURSE OUTCOMES

On completion of the course you will gain an understanding in the following areas:

  • Introduction to lasers
    • Properties of laser light (comparison with properties of other light)
    • Biological effects (skin / eye)
    • Aversion effects
    • Laser types and classification
  • Safe working with lasers
    • Selection of class and type of equipment 
    • Principles of setting up and methods of alignment of laser equipment, including practical demonstrations
    • Safety rules and precautions
    • Explanations of relevant regulations 
  • Responsibilities and accident reporting
    • Responsibilities of parties
    • Accident reporting requirements
    • Equipment control and storage
    • Inventory
    • Coordination and liaison of safety practices


If successful you will receive a Statement of Attendance.

DELIVERY AND ASSESSMENT

This course is delivered and assessed face to face.

There are theory and practical training and assessment components to the course.

DURATION

  • This course is half a day. (4 hours)
 
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Entrants will need a level of language and literacy skills to enable them to meet the requirements of the course.

Civil Train recommends year 10 school completion or equivalent as a guide to the level required for short courses.

PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT

Enclosed, safety footwear, long pants, long sleeved shirts with hi-vis, gloves and safety glasses are required. Failure to wear correct PPE may prevent the participant from completing the practical training and/or assessment.
