MSMWHS217  Gas Test Atmospheres

This course is suitable for persons requiring the knowledge, skills and abilities to use gas detection equipment to test and monitor potentially hazardous atmospheres.

Testing involves the use of electronic test apparatus.

In a typical scenario an individual may be required to carry out gas testing of an atmosphere prior to entering a specific area or workspace or confined space.  This course does not qualify a person to enter confined spaces for gas testing purposes.  

 
Course Outcomes

Upon completion of the course, you will be able to:

  • Recognise common causes of Atmospheric hazards
  • Source information required for effective gas detection
  • Select, calibrate and use detection equipment
  • Interpret, record and analyse test results
  • Recommend controls based on test results
  • Recognise the limitations of gas detection
 
DURATION
  • One day (8 hours)

 

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
  • It is advisable that participants have completed a confined space course prior to enrolling in Gas Test Atmospheres.
  • English reading, writing and speaking skills

 

On-site delivery requirements

To achieve the course outcomes at the client's site the following must be provided:
  • Access to entry points of actual or simulated confined spaces
  • Gas testing unit of the type in use at the site (available with pump and hose for  external testing capabilities)
  • Calibration equipment for gas testing unit
